Got Shirty

I’ve found this to happen when my husband puts on too much deodorant and it isn’t dry before he puts on his shirt.

I haven’t found anything to take it out and it happens to other colors too, it just isn’t as noticeable.

This is caused by underarm sweat and underarm deoderants bleaching or dyeing those areas over long periods of time. Our sweat contains many acids and salts that can easily stain clothes over time. By the time you get the shirt to the washer and dryer, the damage is already done… You can’t reverse it.

it’s deodorant. Make a solution of ammonia and laudry detergent to put on the stains. Throw them into the wash after letting it sit on the fabric for 15 minutes.

always turn your shirts inside out before washing. this greatly reduces the discoloration.

Yes it the 2 things deodorant and the sweat, the best way to clean this is buy soaking the shirts in cold water ,add some good old fashioned bar soap leave the shirt free from the water for 1/2 hr . Then put the shirt back to the cold water rub more soap in and straight to the washing machine . The problem is the more heat you add to a stain the harder it is to remove talking in washing temp terms, Also after you have washed your shirts if you can hang them out in the sun the sun will bleach the stain out the natural way

I had the same problem for years. I did a little research and the aluminum found in most deodorants/antiperspirants is the cause for shirts turning yellow around the armpit area. I switched to a natural deodorant (no aluminum) and haven’t had a problem since.

Also, I found out that aluminum is linked to ****** cancer. That’s another reason why I made the switch.
