How can I wash my shirts with out shrinking them?

I have two shirts I just bought that I believe are cotton. (Tags do not say) They are the button up kind with a collar. How can I wash these shirts without shrinking them? Or any shirt for that matter? I tried washing them and then hanging them to dry, but they still seem to be shrinking. I am a tall guy so and they fit perfectly so I don’t want them any smaller. I am a single dad and I always end up shrinking my daughter’s shirts as well. HELP! Thanks.
